CBD and driving in Denmark: What does 0.2% THC mean?

created on

This article concerns Denmark. It does not describe the rules in Germany, Sweden or Greenland and discusses no specific commercial products.

Percentage and blood concentration are different

0.2% THC describes the content of a material. THC in blood is measured in a different unit. Those figures cannot be converted into a general permission to drive.

The Danish threshold

The lower threshold for punishable driving with THC in blood is 0.001 mg THC per kg of blood. Penalties depend partly on the concentration. Consult the linked official guidance for current details.

Special rules apply to medicines taken in accordance with a lawful prescription. A prescription does not remove the requirement to drive safely. Discuss driving with the prescribing clinician.

THC-free does not automatically mean fit to drive

The NIH list reduced alertness as a possible side effect of CBD. Do not drive when drowsy, dizzy or otherwise impaired. A name or percentage cannot establish an individual’s fitness to drive or blood concentration.

No universal waiting time

This article gives neither a safe dose nor a number of hours after which driving is guaranteed to be lawful. If there is doubt about impairment, leave the car parked. This is general information, not an individual legal or medical assessment.
